Before I joined Ascend, I was a quiet girl living in a world that often told me to stay invisible. Opportunities for girls like me were shrinking every day. With the Taliban’s growing restrictions, I couldn’t move freely, study safely, or even dream without fear. I felt small, uncertain, and lost — unsure of who I was or what I could become.

Still, somewhere deep inside, a small spark of hope refused to die. I wanted to change, to find my voice — I just didn’t know how. Then one day, my teacher told me about Ascend. She said, “This could be your chance to grow.” I didn’t know it then, but that conversation would change the course of my life.
When I joined Ascend, I was nervous and unsure. I had always been introverted and avoided speaking in front of others. But Ascend was different. It was a space where I felt seen and safe — a place where girls were encouraged to be brave, to lead, and to dream. For the first time, I was surrounded by mentors and peers who believed in me even before I fully believed in myself.
Through Ascend’s program, I learned to trust my abilities and believe in my worth. I developed skills in leadership, teamwork, decision-making, and communication, and discovered how to set goals and take small, steady steps toward them. The lessons went far beyond the classroom. I learned that even in difficult and limited circumstances, growth is possible, and that real strength comes from within.
Slowly, I began to change. I started to speak up — first in small group discussions, then in larger settings. I learned to listen deeply, to collaborate, and to take initiative. The shy, quiet girl I once was began to fade, replaced by someone more confident, curious, and hopeful.
Today, my life looks completely different. I have completed over 200 online courses, earning certificates in areas such as leadership, education, and health. I gained internship experience in a dermatologic surgery clinic and am now working as an intern with Ascend, giving back to the same organization that once gave me courage. I’ve also strengthened my language and computer skills, preparing myself for future academic and professional opportunities.
The lessons I learned at Ascend continue to guide me every day. I plan my goals with clarity, manage my time with purpose, and face challenges with resilience. My confidence and leadership skills have not only transformed my own life — they’ve also inspired my family and community. I’ve encouraged my siblings to keep learning, and I share my experiences with other young women, showing them that even in the hardest times, hope and progress are still possible.
Ascend was more than just a program for me — it was a turning point. It gave me a voice, a vision, and the courage to believe that I could create change, not just for myself, but for others.
I still have big dreams. I want to continue working in the fields of health and leadership, helping women and youth discover their potential just as I did. Because of Ascend, I now know that my circumstances do not define my future — my choices, courage, and confidence do.
Ascend helped me see who I truly am: strong, capable, and ready to lead.
